Marriage is one of the most traditional practices in the world, starting from as early as Adam and Eve. Two people are bound together in holy wedlock; with a vow of standing by each other, "Till death do us part." It's only natural then, that when both of them live in close proximity with each other, they have problems. Problems lead to difference in opinions, differences lead to fights, and they are divorced before they even know what hit them. Marriage counseling is on the rise in today's world, with more and more people rushing to a counselor to solve their marital woes and save their crumbling marriages. So what exactly makes a marriage work?
When in doubt about whether or not to continue a relationship, look back at the past; recount the times when you were happy together. If you feel the good times outnumber the bad, then the marriage is definitely worth fighting for. Take time out for each other, remember how special he/she was when you started dating; try to relive the memories, go for a second honeymoon. Try to spend at least an hour everyday, in each others company, without discussing the worries and troubles of mundane life. Most important, forgive your partner, since forgiveness plays a key role towards the success of any relationship. Re-kindle the love you have for each other; go out on impromptu dates, have candle lit dinners, and make sure weekends are spent exclusively for each other. Talk about any problems that you might have; or any worries niggling at the back of your mind. Always remember that the other person is not a mind reader; you have to communicate to help him/her understand what you are going through.
A marriage might go sour for a variety of reasons, but the key to saving a failed marriage lies in your hands and yours alone. Bring the passion and love back into the relationship, understand your spouse. Listen to what he/she has to say, and remember why you are together in the first place. If you truly love your partner, and you think the marriage is worth saving, then go for it with all you have. Love never fails.
